Templates are not a career. This course treats After Effects as a design desk: composition, timing, easing, and a graphic system that can survive a rebrand. You will build lower thirds, openers, product explainers and a sting pack a house could actually use.

We start from stills — type, grid, colour — then put them in time. Cinema 4D Lite for the moments that need a little depth. Expressions only where they save hours. Mentors kill anything that looks like a download.

The track, eight modules, a motion reel at the end. If you already edit, this is how you stop outsourcing every title. If you come from graphic design, this is how stills start to move.

Who this is for

You do not need a reel to start — you need the willingness to be marked. This track is built for people who want to work, not collect modules. Typical students:

  • Editors who want motion in-house
  • Graphic designers moving into time-based work
  • Anyone building brand packs for social and film

What you leave with

Every Rootmedia program ends in work you can send. Not a moodboard, not a software exam — pieces with a brief, a deadline and a mentor's notes still in the margins.

  • Design and animate branded type, stings and UI motion
  • Build reusable After Effects systems, not one-off comps
  • Simple 3D and track that hold up in a commercial cut
  • A motion reel with real briefs, not tutorial copies

How the weeks run

Sessions mix floor time and review. You make something every week. Mentors who still take briefs will mark the work as they would a junior's — clear, specific, and aimed at the next version, not a grade. Homework is real: a cut, a lighting plot, a calendar, a reel. If you only wanted theory, this is the wrong room.

Class sizes stay small enough that nobody hides. You will see other students' work, steal what is useful, and learn to talk about pictures without hand-waving. That critique muscle is what agencies notice in an interview.

Gear is taught as a means. We would rather you light well with two lights than own a catalogue. Software follows the same rule: Premiere, After Effects, and whatever the floor is actually using — enough to be dangerous, not a tour of every panel.

Where this course runs

Most motion work coming out of Kozhikode is title packs and social idents for brands and studios in the district. That is what this track builds toward — a sting pack and lower-third system a local house could put straight on a job, not a portfolio of tutorial recreations.

After Effects — common questions

Is this course only about templates?

No — it is the opposite. You design in Illustrator first, then animate with intent. Mentors reject anything that looks like a marketplace download, because a template is not a portfolio.

Do I need graphic design experience?

No. The first module is type, grid and colour before a single keyframe, so designers and editors both start from the same ground.

Does it cover 3D?

Cinema 4D Lite, at the depth a premium sting needs — extruded type, simple product moves, camera. It is not a full 3D course.

What do I finish with?

A motion reel built from real briefs — lower thirds, an opener, a product explainer and an ident pack — plus reusable After Effects systems rather than one-off comps.
