Digital Marketing Jobs for Freshers in Kerala

The entry-level digital marketing roles in Kerala, what each one really involves, and the skills and portfolio pieces that get a fresher interviewed.

By Rootmedia · Published

The short answer: freshers in Kerala usually start as a digital marketing executive, SEO executive, social media executive, Google Ads / PPC executive or content writer, at agencies, at local businesses with their own marketing, and at IT and e-commerce companies. What gets a fresher hired is not a certificate but proof: a campaign you ran, a site you improved, numbers you can explain.

The entry-level roles, and what they actually involve

Digital marketing executive

The most common first job, especially at small and mid-size businesses. You’ll do a bit of everything: post and schedule social content, run basic Google and Meta campaigns, update the website, and report on enquiries. It’s broad, and it’s the fastest way to find out which channel you’re best at.

SEO executive

Keyword research, on-page fixes, technical checks, content briefs, local SEO and Google Business Profile, and a monthly report from Search Console. Interviews often include a short task: audit a page, or suggest keywords for a business.

Social media executive

Planning a content calendar, briefing or making creative, posting, replying, and increasingly running Meta Ads. Expect to be asked for ideas for a real brand’s Instagram during the interview.

Building and managing Search, Display, Video and Shopping campaigns, keywords and bids, conversion tracking, and budget reports. This role rewards people who like numbers.

Performance marketing executive

Running paid search and paid social together against a budget, and reporting the result in GA4. Often a step up from a PPC or social role, but some companies hire freshers who can show real campaign results.

Content writer / content marketer

Blog posts, website copy, ad copy, scripts and emails, increasingly with AI tools in the workflow. Good writers who also understand SEO are in steady demand.

Where the jobs are

  • Digital marketing agencies in Kozhikode, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and other cities, serving local and overseas clients.
  • Local businesses (retail, real estate, healthcare, education, food) hiring their own marketer instead of an agency.
  • IT, SaaS and e-commerce companies, including those in Kerala’s technology parks.
  • Businesses serving the Gulf market, many of them run from Kerala.
  • Freelancing: local clients who need one person to handle their ads, social media and website.

The skills that get a fresher hired

  • Setting up and reading Google Analytics 4 and conversion tracking
  • Running a Google Ads Search campaign and explaining the results
  • Running a Meta Ads campaign and testing creative
  • Keyword research and basic on-page SEO
  • Clear writing: ads, posts, briefs, emails
  • Using AI tools well, and checking their output
  • Explaining your work in plain numbers: spend, clicks, cost per lead, and what you’d change

Build a portfolio before you apply

Five pieces are enough to stand out from other freshers:

  1. A keyword map and on-page audit for a real website.
  2. A Google Ads campaign (even a small one) with the results and what you learned.
  3. A Meta Ads test comparing two creatives or audiences.
  4. A GA4 setup with events and a simple report.
  5. A content calendar for a real brand, with a few pieces made.

Put each on one page: the goal, what you did, the numbers, and what you’d do next. That is exactly the conversation an interviewer wants to have.

Internships

An internship is often the bridge between a course and a first job. Agencies and in-house teams take interns for social media, SEO and ads support. Ask your course provider which companies they know, look on LinkedIn and job portals, and approach agencies directly with your portfolio. Before accepting, ask what you’ll actually work on: an internship where you run real accounts is worth more than one where you only make posts.

What about salary?

Starting pay varies widely with the city, the company, the role and (above all) what you can show. We don’t quote figures, because any single number would mislead. Ask for the range in the interview, and in your first year compare offers on how much you’ll learn as well as on pay.

Is digital marketing a good career in 2026?

For people who like numbers and writing, yes. AI now does parts of the job (first drafts, bid adjustments, reporting), but businesses still need people who can plan a campaign, judge what the AI produced, and prove what worked. Those are the skills worth training.
